What "Launch" Actually Means to us

So you might be wondering, "when are these guys actually launching?"

Fair question. It's also special to us because behind the scenes, "launching" the Omits app is less "press the big red button" and more "make sure the big red button doesn't get any ideas."

Here's what's actually happening right now, minus the boring parts.

We keep sending real money across a couple of borders. Not test money, not pretend numbers on a screen, but actual money moving from one country to another, over and over, until we're sure it lands correctly every single time; whether it's crossing an ocean or just going down the street.

We keep asking "but what if someone does something weird?" What if someone types in their ex's account number wrongly? What if someone loses their phone mid-transfer? What if someone's grandma tries to send money at 2am on a Sunday, during a public holiday, to a country three time zones away? We've thought about it. We've probably thought about it too much.

Compliance read this blog post's first draft and made us take out three jokes. That is actually a good sign. It means people are paying very close attention to the boring, important stuff, so that later, your money moves the way it's supposed to, wherever it's going, every time, without drama.

We are, however, still human, so we're double, triple, and quadruple checking everything. Passwords. PINs. What happens if the internet cuts out mid-transfer. What happens if you press the button seventeen times because you're nervous (You won't get charged seventeen times. We promise. We checked. Several times).

"Launch" isn't a date so much as a feeling. Specifically, the feeling of everyone on the team looking at each other and going "okay, I would personally trust this to get my money to my family, wherever they are" without anyone flinching.

So no, we're not launching today. But we're close, and honestly, we'd rather be a little slower and get it right without any doubts, than fast and unsure. When we do launch, you'll know that we're not exactly the quiet type.
